These Padres are rolling. 4 wins in a row, great pitching, defense, everything. Plus a little drama. It all started on Friday versus the Diamondbacks.

Things weren’t looking good on Friday. The Pads were down by 3 in the 7th, until the came to life. They got a leadoff double by Kyle Blanks, he advanced to 3rd on a flyout, and scored on a ground out. Good job of manufacturing a run. In the 8th, the Padres loaded the bases, and Kyle Blanks walked, forcing in a run. Scott Hairston was unable to capitalize with the bases loaded, and the score was 3-2 going into the 9th. In the bottom of the 9th, Nick Hundley led off with a walk. He advanced to 2nd on a Jerry Hairston sac bunt, and then Everth Cabrera struck out. It was all up to Eckstein. He doubled of Gerardo Parra’s head in left, scoring Hundley. It was 3-3!! Then the D-Backs proceeded to walk A-Gon. Bringing up- Chase Headley. He did this:
He deposited a 3 run walk off dinger into the stands in right, a BOMB. I was going nuts. Final score, 6-3 Pads.
I went to game 2 at PETCO on Saturday. It was great. Before the game, Adrian Gonzalez received his Gold Glove for the 2009 season. It was great.
The Padres scored in the 1st on a double play groundout to make it 1-0. In the 4th inning, Nick Hundley sent a liner over the wall in left for his first big fly of the season.
There was no more scoring until the 7th, when Scott Hairston walked with the bases loaded to make it 3-0. Nick Hundley was up next, and hit a little ducksnort single, scoring 2.
The Padres then shut out the D-Backs over the next 2 innings, and the Padres took game 2, 5-0.
Game 3 was much like game 1, in a way. The D-Backs took a quick 2-0 lead, and held it until the bottom of the 7th. Leading off the bottom of the 7th was Scott Hairston and he hit a homer just over the left field wall, making it 2-1.
The D-Backs then proceeded to get the next two outs. Everth Cabrera then singled, stole second, and Jerry Hairston then hit a run scoring double. Of course, they walked Adrian again. Chase Headley got another chance to make the D-Backs pay for walking A-Gon, and boy, did he cash in. He hit a 2 run double.  Then the cutoff man botched the throw home, and Chase ran all the way around to score. It was awesome!!!!! Mike Adams then did a great job, as he retired the D-Backs 1-2-3. Heath Bell came in to shut the door. Although he gave up a run scoring double to Stephen Drew, he still earned the save, and the Padres swept the D-Backs, final score was 5-3.
The Padres began a 3 game series at home versus the Giants last night. Clayton Richard was pitching for the Padres versus Matt Cain of the Giants.
The Padres got a quick run in the first inning on a Adrian Gonzalez sac fly.
The Giants got that run back in the 4th, though. Pablo Sandoval hit a run scoring single, making the score 1-1. In the 6th, Kyle Blanks led off with a triple. Will Venable then hit a sac fly, and the Padres took the lead. There was no more scoring until the top of the 9th, when Heath Bell came in to try and shut the door. But Juan Uribe hit a solo homer, tying the score. It was still 2-2 going into the bottom of the 10th, when David Eckstein led off the inning with a drive to deep left field, going, going, GONE!!!
PADRES WIN!!! Eck hit a walk off homer, and the Padres won 3-2!!!
He then got a Gatorade bath after:
The Padres team is playing hard, with efforts such as this:
And things are coming together. Hopefully the Padres can keep this win streak alive. Mat Latos goes for the Padres tonight versus Jonathan Sanchez of the Giants.
The Thunder also play tonight in game 2 versus the Lakers. The Thunder had a tough game on Sunday, losing 87-79. Hopefully they can take game 2.
Have a good rest of afternoon and night everybody!! Stay safe, and God bless.

End of the 2010 Spring Training in Arizona

Yesterday, the Padres concluded their 2010 Spring Training in Arizona. They finished with a 16-10-2 record, and led the Major leagues in stolen bases. It doesn’t mean anything though. It all changes Monday, when the games count for real. I can’t wait, it is gonna be awesome. Now here is the projected lineup I think Buddy Black should go with on Monday.

1. Everth Cabrera

2. David Eckstein

3. Adrian Gonzalez

4. Kyle Blanks

5. Scott Hairston

6. Chase Headley

7. Will Venable

8. Nick Hundley

9. Pitchers spot

I got E-Can batting 1st because of his speed. Eck second because he doesn’t have much pop, but can execute the hit and run, move E-Cab to 3rd on a single, etc. Adrian’s gonna hit 3rd because he has the pop for a possible 3 run jack, but can also go oppo field or pull a pitch for singles, doubles, and even triples if he gets lucky. The 4 spot is going to be huge this season. I think Blanks is gonna have a great year behind Adrian. I’m calling maybe a .275/35/100 season. I think this because last year Blanks averaged a home run in every 14 ABs, while Albert Pujols of the Cardinals averaged a homer every 11 ABs. Pujols finished with around 50 dingers, so Blanks should hit 35, in my opinion. Scott Hairston hits 5th because he is so clutch, but also has a decent amount of speed. The 6th spot with Headley in it should be very interesting, because he is going back to his natural position at 3rd base. Don’t expect a lot out of him defensively, but i think he can put up some strong hitting numbers in 2010. Will Venable has a chance to become a star in the future, but this season, he is a perennal 20/20 guy. He has speed, pop, and can hit for a decent average. The 8th spot in where Hundley will bat. This is an interesting year for Hundley, he has something to prove. If he can’t put up good numbers, don’t expect him to start everyday in 2010 and 2011.

Pitching Rotation:

1. Jon Garland

2. Kevin Correia

3. Chris Young

4. Clayton Richard

5. Mat Latos

The Padres rotation is gonna be good if they can stay healthy. That will be really key. C.Y. has to prove himself again before he has to become a #1 starter. Garland and Correia will put up solid numbers, and Richard and Latos may have breakout years.

The Padres have loads of talent, but it is raw, young talent. If the young guys can play really well and not have a long slump in the middle of the season, I think the Padres will be playing baseball come October.

Hope you all are having a good Holy Thursday! Stay safe tonight, and God Bless!

GO PADRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO THUNDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Thunder beat the Celtics yesterday and moved a little closer to a playoff spot. They are 46-28 on the season. KD scored 37 points and got 8 boards in the win. Green hit a couple of 3’s to seal the game up, and many other players got into the act as well. It was a great win.

My Apologies

I am so sorry that I haven’t blogged for a while. I’ve been playing a lot of basketball recently, i’ve been to Fresno, and now I am on Spring Break, so life is going pretty well. Life is going pretty well for the Padres as well. They’ve shown some real promise, if i’m not mistaken, they are 15-10-1 this spring. But records don’t matter whatsoever at this point. The Friars have played well. Chase Headley, most of all. This guy was slumping for 2 years, with an average around .250 while playing left field. Now in ST, he has 20 RBI’s in 18 games while he’s returned to an everyday 3rd baseman. Possibly playing at his natural postition will improve his numbers dramatically? I sure hope so.

So I am going to be in school Monday April 5th, at 2:10 PM, and probably will be pulling my hair out in class, It’s going to drive me crazy knowing that my Padres are playing the first game of the season and I won’t even be able to watch it. I think i’ll sneak my iPod Touch into the class and follow the game secretly with MLB At Bat 2010.

Maybe that’ll work, idk. I just hope my teacher doesn’t read this blog!!!! Haha cuz if he does I’m sure he’ll be keeping an eye on me in class, making sure I am following his lesson instead of the Padres.

The Padres named Jon Garland the Opening Day starter. This surprised me a lot because i thought maybe C.Y. or K-Cor would get the nod. But Buddy Black knows what he’s doing. Oh yeah, and Garland starting Opening day means C.Y. will be hurling the rock at the home opener on April 12th.

Man, all this talk about baseball is getting me pumped. Another season, another 162 games, Even though the Padres may not get there this year, they still got a good solid bunch of young guys that will make a difference.

Have a good night everybody,  and God Bless!

GO PADRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO THUNDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friars win 5-4, lose 10-5

So it is only spring training- but it’s always nice to get a W.The Padres did just that earlier today, defeating the Brew Crew 5-4. It was a split-squad day, and the 2nd game they lost 10-5 to the Indians.

In the win, Will Venable paced the Padres attack with a 3 run bomb in the first inning off starter Yovanii Gaiardo. Logan Forsythe also added to RBI’s. Mat Latos and Sean Gallagher both pitched 3 innings, giving up 1 run apeice.

In the 10-5 loss, Michael Collins, a young catcher for the Friars, went deep. Aaron Cunningham had a RBI, Denorfia had 1, and Salazar added 2 RBI’s as well. Wade LeBlanc went 3 innings, giving up 1 run. Aaron Poreda didn’t even record an out, giving up 7 runs, 6 earned.

Those are some highlights and lowlights to the games today. The Oklahoma City Thunder play tonight at 5 PM versus the New Orleans Hornets, it’ll be a good game. I can’t wait.

GO PADRES!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO THUNDER!!!!!!!!!!!

Thoughts and A Little Basketball

Hey Guys-

First of all, I want to apologize to all who commented on my blog and when I didn’t comment back on their blogs. I will be getting to read all you guys’ blogs after I type this post. I hope that I didn’t miss much is the Blogosphere over these last couple days!!!!!! OK- getting back to business. Padres baseball.

The Padres are 1-3 this spring, but I am not concerned. The starters are only playing a couple innings each game, and the backups are coming into the game so the Padres can see what they’ve got. And I like that approach to Spring from Buddy Black. I’d much rather see some young guns in Spring training showcasing their talent than watching the starting lineup hit 4 times and play all 9 innings, because we’ll be able to see that for 162 games in the regular season. Bottom line to Padres fans: 1-3? Don’t worry.

So here is some basketball talk. In case you don’t know, my favorite basketball team is the Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Jeff Green, James Harden, Nenad Kristic, plus all the other guys on the team are great. My favorite player on the team is Kevin Durant. He is an amazing basketball player. He had a streak going once where he had 29 games with 25 points or more, and that is just outstanding. Plus, his team and him have a 38-24 record!!!! They’ve already won way more games than last year, and are in the thick of the playoff race. It’s gonna be fun watching this team play down the stretch. They just gotta focus and play their game. Everything else will fall into place if they do that.

The Padres have a great athletic team, which is pretty rare for them. I was talking with my friend and I said that one month in ’07 the only steal I could remember from the Padres was a steal from Greg Maddux, the pitcher! I am glad that the Padres organization is focused on bringing in young and athletic talent.

Have a good afternoon and night everyone! God Bless!!!

By the way, guys, do you have to show what website you got pictures from? I am not sure, i don’t want to get in trouble for not giving credit for photos I got from a website. Thanks, I appreciate it.

Go Padres!!!

Go Thunder!!
