Not much to blog about

Man, Spring Training is in the thick of things and the Padres are 2-7. No worries, though. They’ve been playing good ball. Everybody will be ready for Opening Day. I don’t really follow Spring Training games closely, you know what I mean? It just isn’t like the regular season. I don’t know about you guys, but I am already ready for Opening Day.

I’m not yet locked into baseball, though. I’m more into basketball right now. But when Opening Day comes around, I am surely going to be in the baseball and basketball mood.
Matt Antonelli has been a real bright spot for the Padres this Spring. He was a guy who fell off the radar last year, and didn’t hit very well. But now, he’s out of that slump, and could maybe be the Padres future 2nd baseman for years to come.
That’s about all I have for now.
God bless!!!

Friars win 5-4, lose 10-5

So it is only spring training- but it’s always nice to get a W.The Padres did just that earlier today, defeating the Brew Crew 5-4. It was a split-squad day, and the 2nd game they lost 10-5 to the Indians.

In the win, Will Venable paced the Padres attack with a 3 run bomb in the first inning off starter Yovanii Gaiardo. Logan Forsythe also added to RBI’s. Mat Latos and Sean Gallagher both pitched 3 innings, giving up 1 run apeice.

In the 10-5 loss, Michael Collins, a young catcher for the Friars, went deep. Aaron Cunningham had a RBI, Denorfia had 1, and Salazar added 2 RBI’s as well. Wade LeBlanc went 3 innings, giving up 1 run. Aaron Poreda didn’t even record an out, giving up 7 runs, 6 earned.

Those are some highlights and lowlights to the games today. The Oklahoma City Thunder play tonight at 5 PM versus the New Orleans Hornets, it’ll be a good game. I can’t wait.

GO PADRES!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO THUNDER!!!!!!!!!!!

Thoughts and A Little Basketball

Hey Guys-

First of all, I want to apologize to all who commented on my blog and when I didn’t comment back on their blogs. I will be getting to read all you guys’ blogs after I type this post. I hope that I didn’t miss much is the Blogosphere over these last couple days!!!!!! OK- getting back to business. Padres baseball.

The Padres are 1-3 this spring, but I am not concerned. The starters are only playing a couple innings each game, and the backups are coming into the game so the Padres can see what they’ve got. And I like that approach to Spring from Buddy Black. I’d much rather see some young guns in Spring training showcasing their talent than watching the starting lineup hit 4 times and play all 9 innings, because we’ll be able to see that for 162 games in the regular season. Bottom line to Padres fans: 1-3? Don’t worry.

So here is some basketball talk. In case you don’t know, my favorite basketball team is the Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Jeff Green, James Harden, Nenad Kristic, plus all the other guys on the team are great. My favorite player on the team is Kevin Durant. He is an amazing basketball player. He had a streak going once where he had 29 games with 25 points or more, and that is just outstanding. Plus, his team and him have a 38-24 record!!!! They’ve already won way more games than last year, and are in the thick of the playoff race. It’s gonna be fun watching this team play down the stretch. They just gotta focus and play their game. Everything else will fall into place if they do that.

The Padres have a great athletic team, which is pretty rare for them. I was talking with my friend and I said that one month in ’07 the only steal I could remember from the Padres was a steal from Greg Maddux, the pitcher! I am glad that the Padres organization is focused on bringing in young and athletic talent.

Have a good afternoon and night everyone! God Bless!!!

By the way, guys, do you have to show what website you got pictures from? I am not sure, i don’t want to get in trouble for not giving credit for photos I got from a website. Thanks, I appreciate it.

Go Padres!!!

Go Thunder!!

6 more days……

until MLB 10 the show comes out!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait. I got a PS3 2 months ago, and I really can’t wait for this game. It’s gonna be my first PS3 baseball game, even though I’ve played the MLB 09 the show demo on there a couple times. Needless to say, I cannot wait until I am playing franchise mode in MLB The Show with the Friars. So, in this post, I am gonna show you guys all the MLB The Show covers, and will have some news from Padre land as well.

MLB 06 The Show:

The first ever MLB The Show game. Even though I never got to play this game very much (I’ve only played about 1 game), i’m sure it was a great introduction to the series.

MLB 07 The Show:

This is when The Show was starting to get recognized as “The most realistic baseball game ever” with the introduction of one of the PS3’s first baseball games.

MLB 08 The Show:

This game was awesome for the PSP, even though I never played it for the PS3.

MLB 09 The Show:

This game was great, no doubt. I still think the one coming up will be the best one ever.

 MLB 10 The Show:

Man, I can’t wait for this game. It’s supposed to be the most fluid baseball game ever. Man, it is gonna be so awesome playing it for the first time on Tuesday.

OK- so i know that video games aren’t a very big deal. But I am really excited for this game. I am sure I won’t be disappointed!!!

Enough about video games, lets turn to real life. The Padres are in the swing of things in Spring Training. Life is good. I can feel the shift from winter to spring, and it’s the feeling of hope and optimism for all big league coaches, players, and fans. There was some off the field news for the Padres, though.

It doesn’t look like Adrian will be staying on the Padres for much longer. He said that he won’t take a hometown discount and will try to “Get as much money as he is worth”. I don’t know about all Padres fans, but if Adrian goes this trade deadline, I’ll be really sad. But oh well, that’s just the business of baseball. And it’s more than likely the Padres will trade him this season or next off-season if a deal is right.

Tomorrow I will have a very special entry about one of my favorite plays in baseball. I hope you’ll be able to read it sometime tomorrow, cuz it’s gonna be cool!!!!!!

Have a good night! Stay safe, and God bless!!!

Go Padres!

Spring Training

Man, it is finally here! Spring training 2010 is under way, and this is a time of optimism for every team in Major League Baseball. A new season to see what you can do. Well, it’s not Opening Day yet, there’s over a month till that. But the first spring training game is in 8 days, and I am excited to see what some of these young- and older players can do.

You must be thinking right now, older players? What older players? They probably have a spot locked up already on the Opening Day roster. Well, there is one guy who I am excited to see.

Yep, Matt Stairs. He could be another Cliff Floyd, and that wouldn’t be so well. Or he could be a valuable player coming off the bench, which would be really nice. It might be asking a lot, but I’d like 8-10 bombs from Stairs this year. It would be great to get that many bombs from a dude who just got a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training! But I think he can do it.
I really am wondering right now why Felipe Lopez doesn’t have a deal with a team yet! I mean, this guy hit .310 last year, and player really well down the stretch. From what I’ve heard, though, is that the Cardinals are slowly but surely working a deal with Lopez. The Padres are very unlikely to sign Lopez, according to GM Jed Hoyer. But hey, who knows? Maybe Lopez will be really desperate to sign with a ballclub if the Cardinals don’t sign him and the Pads can pick him up for 3-4 MM.

I just also wanted to say congrats to Bode Miller, who after a terrible Winter Olympics in Torino in 2006, he was won 3 medals, a bronze, a silver, and a gold. I just looked him up right now and he didn’t make it in the slalom run, but still, he’s had a great Olympics.
That’s about all I have for right now.
Go Padres!!
