First W of 2010!!!

What a great win. We had pitching, hitting, speed, defense, man, this is what Padres baseball should be. So here is my recap of the Padres 2nd game of the 2010 campaign.

In the first inning, the Padres went down 1-2-3. The Diamondbacks also didn’t get a hit, but Stephen Drew did reach base on an error by Chase Headley. He would redeem himself though. More on that later.

This is when the Padres started to hit. Not all of the 3 hits of this inning for the Padres were hard, but they all count as the same. It started when Chase Headley singled up the middle with 1 out. Will Venable then struck out. Nick Hundley was up next, and hit a swinging bunt probbly about 35 feet down the 3rd base line, and Mark Reynolds could not make the play. Then, Everth Cabrera doubled home 2 Padres, as the Padres took a quick 2-0 lead.

The D-Backs went down 1-2-3 in the second.

The Padres couldnt muster another run in the 3rd, although Tony Gwynn walked a stole a base with no one out.

The D-Backs could also not muster anything in the 3rd, as C.Y. looked to be in complete control.

In the 4th inning, Will Venable knocked his first of the season 400- something feet to right field, as the Padres took a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the 4th, the D-Backs couldn’t muster anything off C.Y. After 4, Padres lead, 3-0.

In the 5th, the Padres couldn’t muster anything.

In the bottom of the 5th, C.Y. ran into a little bit of trouble. Although 2 fantastic back handed stabs and great throws at 3rd by Chase Headley got him out of danger.

In the 6th inning, Everth Cabrera struck again. With 2 runners on base, Everth went to the right-center field gap, scoring 2 and ending up with a 2 run triple.

In the bottom half, C.Y. completed his final inning of work. His statline? 6.0 IP, 0 R, 1 hit, and 3 BB. Pretty good for a guy who hadn’t started a regular season game since last season.

The Padres couldn’t ad any insurance in the top of the 7th.

In the bottom half, though, Arizona struck for 3 runs, and I was getting a little nervous. The final out was a fly out to the warning track in left. With a sigh of relief, the score was now 5-3.

Although the Padres did have runners on first and second, they couldn’t score.

The D-Backs had a leadoff single against reliever Mike Adams, but couldn’t score, and it headed to the 9th, Padres leading 5-3.

In the 9th, Adrian Gonzalez crushed a ball to right field, going, going, gone. His 2nd of this young campaign, and the friars now got a little bit of insurance, the lead now 6-3.

In the bottom half of the 9th, Conor Jackson led off with an infield single. Heath Bell quickly erased that with a 5-4-3 double play, highlighted by a beautiful scoop at first by Adrian Gonzalez. Heath then struck out Justin Upton, and the Padres win!!!!

It was a great first win for the ballclub. It was highlighted by good pitching, good hitting, and speed. This is Padres baseball.

The Padres actually play in a couple of hours, start time at 6:40 PM PT. Kevin Correia starts for the Padres versus Ian Kennedy of the Diamondbacks. Hopefully the Padres can win the rubber game of this series, and win their first series of this very young season.

The Thunder lost last night, 140-139. It was a great game though. Kevin Durant led all scorers with 45 points, but the Thunder just couldn’t pull this one out in OT.

Have a good rest of afternoon and night everyone! Stay safe, and God bless!

GO PADRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
